Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to fight in a cage if I take classes?
No. While some students are training to compete in amateur and professional fights, not everyone who trains wants to compete. Many students train to lose weight, increase cardio health and flexibility, or just to get out of the house a couple of times a week.
I want to fight! How long do I have to train before I step into the octagon?
Training time varies from individual to individual. Some people are ready to compete in six months and others need to train significantly longer.
I'm way out of shape. Can I still train?
Yes. In fact, the only way to get in "class shape" is to come to class regularly. You might suck wind for a couple of weeks, but the curriculum is designed to get you in shape quickly.
Does experience in other martial arts help?
Yes, but it's not required.
Can women train?
You bet!
What should I bring to my first class?
A fitted mouthguard (available at Wal-Mart) and groin protection is recommended for every class.
Do I have to buy my own equipment?
We have extra protective sparring equipment for people to borrow, but everyone should eventually invest in their own. For most classes, 7-oz training gloves and grappling shin guards will be sufficient.
